HE may have seen the film countless times, but producer Kayne Taylor can’t wait for Reaching Distance to hit Avoca Beach Picture Theatre.

“It’s kind of cool having your film play at the local,” the 32-year-old born and bred Coastie said.

“There’s something special about watching it for the first time with family and friends.”

The psychological thriller Reaching Distance premiered in Sydney on October 17, and is having a national tour of screenings and question and answer sessions, including Avoca Beach Picture Theatre on Monday, November 19.

It follows a man with a photographic memory who tracks his sister’s killer onto a night rider bus. His plans for vengeance go awry when the line between memory and reality breaks.

The film was written and directed by David Fairhurst, and produced by Taylor. The pair studied together at the Academy of Film Theatre and Television.

“David’s scripts are so out there, not something you would see in a conventional cinema,” Taylor said.

They started working on Reaching Distance in August 2016, with their first purchase a $5000 bus where 96 per cent of the film is shot.

“We had to get creative and look at how we keep a confined space looking visually interesting,” Taylor said.

“It’s a psychological thriller so the bus goes through a number of transformations. It turns into a nightclub, apartment and aquarium.”

The former Henry Kendall High School student said he loved sketching and watching movies films as a child, and was inspired by the movie Forrest Gump’s blend of drama and fantasy.

“I always knew I wanted to do something creative,” he said.

“I initially wanted to be an artist but thought that was too competitive so I ended up going into film which is more outrageously competitive.”

Taylor also co-produced the independent Australian feature film Drown which screened and secured distribution around the world.

Reaching Distance stars Wade Briggs, Morgan Griffin, Matt Day, Eddie Baroo, Meyne Wyatt, and Tara Morice.
