A teenager has been refused bail after allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old man in the chest at Ourimbah.

Isaac McClure, 19, was not required to appear before Wyong Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with reckless wounding and breaching bail.

His Legal Aid solicitor did not apply for bail nor contest a detention application previously lodged by police following prior, separate offences.

Magistrate Justin Peach said McClure had previously pleaded guilty to driving with an illicit drug in his system, shoplifting, carrying a knife in public and driving while disqualified.

Mr Peach said McClure was convicted of those offences in his absence and was listed to be sentenced on April 2.

Mr Peach said those offences also saw McClure in breach of a good behaviour condition imposed after previously being dealt with for hindering or resisting arrest and shoplifting.

He adjourned McClure for sentence on the previous matters to April 2 and adjourned the fresh reckless wounding charge to March 26 for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to consider taking carriage of the matter.

This typically occurs for criminal matters which are deemed more serious or complex and are expected to be finalised in a higher court.

It comes after emergency services were called to Walmsley Rd, Ourimbah, at 6.50pm on Tuesday, following reports of a stabbing.

Tuggerah Lakes Police attended and found a 29-year-old man with a wound to his chest.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.

A crime scene was established and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested McClure inside a unit on Walmsley Rd just after midnight on Wednesday.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with reckless wounding and breach of bail.
