NSW bushfires: Blue Haven homes burned by Charmhaven bushfire
It was the worst possible end to the year and the decade with lives and homes lost across NSW – including two homes burned by the Charmhaven bushfire as it roared north fanned by southerly winds.

It was exactly the kind of New Year’s Eve nobody wanted with two homes burned at Blue Haven overnight.
The properties in Birdwood Drive caught fire as the Arizona Road Charmhaven blaze was fanned by strong southerly winds which pushed it toward Blue Haven and later toward Wyee.
NSW Rural Fire Service and police are yet to confirm the losses but at least one picture shows structures alight.
A spokesman for the RFS said assessment teams would be in the area today to determine exactly what had been lost.
“It’s still a very active fire and when it’s safe to do so, we’ll be in there,” the spokesman said.
“While the fire is now at advice level, residents should continue to take the advice of fire crews on the ground and to monitor the fire and have a plan in place.”
The Charmhaven fire has burned through 335ha of bushland and is being controlled with fire fighters facing less dangerous conditions this morning. This fire is now at advice level.
A second fire at Bushells Ridge Road Wyee is out of control but also at advice level.
The fires pose a threat to both the Pacific Hwy and the Newcastle Central coast rail line.
Further north at Summerhill Drive, Wangi Wangi in the Lake Macquarie local government area, a fire is at watch and act level this morning after burning out 30 hectares.
The fire is burning near Wangi Wangi toward Wangi Road and Donnelly Road under strong south-westerly winds. Embers are being blown ahead of the fire.
The RFS warns residents in the area, be alert for embers that can threaten property well ahead of the main fire front arriving.
As of 3am this morning there were 112 fires burning across NSW.
The RFS said several large and dangerous fires continued burning on the South Coast where fires remain at watch and act level.
At least 2500 firefighters fought the fires across NSW yesterday.
