A PHILANDERER has been busted living a double life after his mistress discovered he was married with two kids and rang his wife.
Shannon Bailey faced Gosford Local Court on Tuesday charged with intimidation and larceny after his plans to stay married — but have a bit on the side — came crashing down around him.
The charge of intimidating his mistress was withdrawn and dismissed when Bailey pleaded guilty to stealing her phone.
The 32-year-old from Tuggerah set up a profile on the “Plenty of Fish” online dating site under an assumed name in February and by March was in a relationship with a Terrigal woman.
“At the time the victim believed the accused’s name was Blake Vassallo as that is who he portrayed himself to be,” police facts tendered to court read.
“The victim set about commencing a relationship with the accused including where she lived and worked.”
However, not long into the blossoming romance did the victim start to think something was not right.
“The accused told the victim a number of things throughout their relationship which did not sit well with the victim,” the facts said.
“The victim was suspicious of the accused’s behaviour and ever changing narrative about his whereabouts and their relationship and, with the help of a friend, set about investigating his bona fides.
“The victim and her friend were able to establish that the accused was in fact married with children and, as a result, the victim had herself become a reluctant mistress.
“The victim, who was reeling and upset about being put into such a vicarious situation, decided to contact the accused’s wife and inform her of what had been occurring, believing it was the right and honourable thing to do.”
The woman spoke to the man’s wife and her sister “and explained to them the situation, which of course created a situation for the accused in relation to explaining himself to his wife”.
As the victim pulled into her driveway after work about 6pm on April 22, Bailey turned up in a 4WD.
“The accused got out of his car and approached the victim aggressively and demanded her mobile phone saying something along the lines of ‘you’ve ruined my life’,” the police facts read.
He took her iPhone and refused to give it back, sending her messages after she bought a new one the next day saying “you will message my wife but not answer me”.
She again asked for her phone back but when he replied “what phone, I don’t have your phone” she went to the police.
Bailey told police he bought it but when he could not provide any proof of ownership he was charged with larceny and intimidation for his outburst on her driveway.
“The victim is fearful of the accused as she was lied to and misled by him for so long that she is unsure of what he is capable of especially after his aggressive and violent behaviour towards her when he stole her phone and threatened to destroy her property,” the facts read.
Bailey was convicted and placed on a nine-month good behaviour bond.
