Long Jetty: Teralla Stockham pleads guilty to mistaken pay back robbery

A woman has pleaded guilty to the brazen robbery of a young man who she mistakenly thought had broken into her friend’s mum’s house, a court has heard.

How do juries decide a verdict?

One of two women charged over the daylight robbery of a young man at a Long Jetty service station mistakenly thought he had first broken into one of their mum’s house, a court has heard.

Teralla Stockham, of Doonside, appeared via video link at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to one count of robbery in company.

An agreed set of facts states a 23-year-old man was walking along Central Coast Highway near the intersection of Pacific St about 3.20pm on July 30, 2021, when he saw Stockham running towards him yelling “Now I’ve got you, you little dog”.

About the same time he saw another woman driving a blue Holden hatchback along Pacific St approaching the intersection.

The young man ran to the Metro service station where he was followed closely by the hatchback.

He entered the servo yelling “excuse me that person just tried to run me over” before Stockham arrived dressed in a white zip up jumper.

The victim told Stockham, 28, he was going to call police which she responded “call the police, you broke into Jackie’s mum’s house you dickhead” and “yeah you’re busted dog, come out here and talk to us, tell us you didn’t do it”.

The other woman, who was driving the hatchback, entered the store and the victim told her “I didn’t break into your mum’s house”.

The facts state the two women follow the young man around the store where Stockham said “you’re dead” in a quiet voice before charging at him.

“The victim runs around the store trying to get away from her yelling `leave me alone’,” the facts state.

The women corner the man at the back of the shop where Stockham grabs his hood and said “we’ll take the lot” as the other woman grabbed his bag, an Everlast satchel, before both women left the service station.

The victim called police and told officers the bag contained $900 cash, two mobile phones, a NSW ID card, two Westpac cards, and an Up bank card.

Almost a month later officers attended an address on Mawson Drive, Killarney Vale, where they saw the blue Holden hatchback parked in the driveway.

They arrested Stockham and the other woman before taking them both back to Wyong Police Station where they were charged.

“It is an agreed fact that at the time of the initial confrontation that Stockham mistakenly held the view that the victim had committed a break and enter on [the other woman’s] mother’s property,” the facts state.

“It is an agreed fact that at the time that Stockham initially approached the victim her intention was just to confront him rather than to rob him. For Stockham the intention to rob the victim was formed during the confrontation.”

She will face Gosford District Court on June 2 to set a sentencing date.

The other woman has not entered a plea and remains before court.
