COUNSELLING has been offered to election staff who witnessed an 80-year-old man die at a polling booth in Long Jetty on the Central Coast.
The 80-year man was lining up to vote when he collapsed at Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College, The Entrance campus, polling booth just before midday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the NSW Electoral Commission shut the polling booth for a period before reopening at 1.45pm.

“Election staff are being offered counselling and assistance by the NSW Electoral Commission.”
A volunteer at the scene said the man had just walked into the theatre when he collapsed.
“It must have been a massive heart attack,” he said.
“Very tragic for everyone.”
Earlier, the NSW Electoral Commission advised there would be a significant delay in voting at the venue.
“It is being recommended electors attend one of the nearest voting centres,” an email from the NSW Electoral Commission said.
NSW Ambulance confirmed a medical incident occurred at the school.
One man told The Daily Telegraph the Returning Officer and other NSW Electoral Commission staff at the Shelly Beach booth were “understandably shaken up” by the sudden death.
The booth is one of the largest in The Entrance electorate, normally receiving about 2,500 votes.
