An executive operations manager who secretly filmed up a woman’s skirt at a Bunnings store on the Central Coast has faced court, after being caught in the act by the victim and her husband.

Garry Alan Randall, 61, of Lake Haven, was sentenced in Wyong Local Court last week after pleading guilty to the charge of filming a person’s private parts without consent.

Randall was shopping at Bunnings in Charmhaven in March, where he was looking for products in aisle 44.

According to police facts, a woman, aged in her 30s, was shopping with her husband when she began to feel uneasy about Randall, as he appeared to be taking photos of her.

“The accused has walked up behind the victim and taken a video on his mobile phone,” court documents state.

“He has placed the camera to view up the victim’s skirt. The victim and witness observed the accused do this, so the witness grabbed the accused’s phone.”

Randall was then confronted by the couple and questioned about what he was doing.

Randall kept repeating, “I don’t know,” and the victim then called out for staff to assist and contact police.

When police arrived, they spoke to both the victim and witness and took possession of Randall’s phone.

Randall told police he acted on impulse, admitted to putting his phone under a woman’s skirt, and said he was embarrassed and that it was a stupid mistake.

When police reviewed the footage on Randall’s phone, it clearly depicted the victim.

Randall’s lawyer told the court his client was extremely embarrassed by the incident, and that his mother had passed away three weeks prior, which he had been struggling with, though he acknowledged this was no excuse for his offending.

He described Randall’s actions as “totally out of character” and said the incident had shattered his client and that Randall was remorseful for his actions.

Magistrate Jennifer Wong said Bunnings was a place many people frequent and it should be a safe place to attend.

“This would have been quite scary and intimidating,” Ms Wong said.

Ms Wong said the offending was on the lower end of the scale and sentenced Randall to a six-month conditional release order with conviction.
