Kincumber stabbing victim Bailey Alcock in critical condition after random attack

A devastated mother has issued an urgent plea for information after her 16-year-old son was stabbed in a “random attack” on the Central Coast.

How did COVID-19 lower crime rates?

A Central Coast teenager has been left in an induced coma, fighting for his life after he was stabbed in Kincumber on Monday.

Karen Harmer, wrote on the NSW Crime Watch Newcastle-Gosford-Sydney Facebook page that her 16-year-old son, Bailey Alcock, had been stabbed while issuing a desperate call for information on Monday night.

She told the Kincumber community her son “almost died” following the random attack.

Emergency services were called to Benelong Cl, Kincumber, at about 1pm following reports a male, aged in his late teens, had suffered a stab wound to his leg.

Paramedics and police attended the scene and the boy was stabilised with a “non life-threatening” injury to his leg.

Following his transfer to Royal North Shore Hospital, Ms Harmer said her son’s condition was serious.

Retained firefighter, Saratoga NSW Fire & Rescue Deputy Captain Peter Kersenboom, told NewsLocal he “heard a scream” before rushing outside to find the teenager collapsed on the ground on a nature strip outside clutching his upper thigh.

“I have got a lot of elderly neighbours and I thought that’s not good,” he said.

“I said ‘I better have a look’.”

He went outside and saw Bailey and his mate standing nearby.

“I saw his hand covering his leg and he said ‘I’ve been stabbed’,” Mr Kersenboom said.

He raced back inside and grabbed his first aid kit before applying a pressure bandage to a single puncture wound about 5cm long.

Mr Kersenboom said Bailey’s friend was on the phone to Triple-0 and when another neighbour came to help, the retained firefighter asked him to call police.

He said he got Bailey to ring his mum while he focused on keeping him “alive until the ambulances arrive”.

“He’s a very lucky young man,” he said. “My job was pressure bandage into the wound hard. I understood my job was to stem the bleeding.”

Mr Kersenboom said when a paramedic arrived they were able to get a tourniquet around his leg before he was placed in the ambulance and taken to Hylton Moore Oval at East Gosford where a CareFlight helicopter was waiting.

Mr Kersenboom said it was a good example of why everyone should have a first aid kit handy at home and learn first aid.

A crime scene was established and police spokeswoman said no arrests have been made and the stabbing “appears to be random”.

Bailey, who is not believed to live in the street, was heard screaming when onlookers saw him collapse to the ground clutching his upper thigh.

“My husband and a neighbour ran out to help, the boy was on the floor in agony, he’s not from our street and the incident has left us nervous,” one onlooker told The Daily Telegraph.

The attack comes as three people were arrested after a man was hospitalised with stab wounds on the Central Coast today in an unrelated incident.

Emergency services were called to McMasters Rd, Blackwall around 8.30 on Tuesday morning following reports a 43-year-old man was stabbed after a silver commodore pulled up beside him.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said officer will allege a 38-year-old man got out of the Holden and approached the older man and engaged in an altercation.

“It’s further alleged the older man was stabbed to the abdomen during the incident,” she said.

“The younger man fled the scene in the Holden.”

The victim was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Responding officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District observed the Commodore on Ocean View Drive, Umina, a short time later,” the NSW Police spokeswoman said. “They stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver and sole occupant, a 42-year-old woman.

“Police attended a nearby home on South Street, Umina Beach, where they arrested a 38-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.”

The man and two women were taken to Gosford Police Station where they are assisting police with their inquiries.

Three crime scenes are currently being processed at Blackall, Umina and Umina Beach.
