Keira Rumble launches Australian first collagen protein bar `Beauty bites’

When Keira Rumble realised that many protein bars on the market had the same amount of sugar as two cinnamon doughnuts, she decided to act.

The 29-year-old, from Daleys Point, has launched Australia’s first collagen bars — Beauty Bites — through her company Krumbled Foods.

The bars, which also take care of your daily skin and probiotics regimen, have hit the bigtime being picked up by major retailers Coles and Priceline.

Ms Rumble said it all started when she was 20 and was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic.

“It was a bit of a wake up call so I started looking at healthy alternatives,” she said.

She said she was going to the gym and eating store bought protein balls and bars, however was finding she was always feeling unwell.

“I realised how much sugar was in a lot of those bars,” she said. “Some protein balls have the same amount of sugar as two cinnamon doughnuts. I became disgruntled against the health food industry.”

That’s when Krumbled Foods was born and after years of hard work and getting the taste right, Beauty Bars were launched in 2019.

Ms Rumble said the bars not only taste great but are low in sugar and combine pre and probiotics, vitamins and edible collagen.

“People spend a lot of money on vitamins and skin regimes,” she said. “This gives them it all in the one bar. I really wanted to create something that you can grab and go.”

After launching the bars, a year’s supply sold out in just three weeks with Ms Rumble realising she was onto a winner.

“We launched during the pandemic but it’s so great to see the business thriving,” she said.

Krumbled Foods has recently launched the new Choc Cherry Beauty Bites and there’s more flavours on the way in the coming weeks.

Ms Rumble is calling on the Food Standards Australia New Zealand for more transparency when it comes to sugars in food packaging and labelling.

“The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends we should limit our added sugar intake to just six teaspoons per day, but the average Australian consumes between 14-16 teaspoons of added sugars a day,” she said.

“Unfortunately, many sugars are hidden, and food packaging and labelling is misleading. If a product label says 25 per cent less sugar, it doesn’t actually mean there is a small amount of sugar in it. It just means that it’s less sugar than another sugar loaded product.

“Beauty Bites only have 2.8 grams of sugar per serve. It’s time to change the packaging and labelling so that everyone knows exactly what they are eating.”
