IT IS the cheeky new trend sure to be turning heads this summer.
After they started to emerge towards the end of last summer the “high cut”, “Brazilian” or “Rio” style swimmers are set to be all the rage this beach season.
Inspired by the Instagram feeds of the likes of the Kardashians and Rihanna, the revealing briefs are half way between a gratuitous G-string and its more conservative mainstream cousin, the full-bottom brief.
“Bums out is definitely in,” a Togs N Tans shop assistant at The Entrance said.
“Most of the brands will have something in their range. I just think Australians have been conservative for way too long.”
The derrière displaying cossies may give up a girl’s secrets faster than a jail house snitch but they are “surprisingly flattering on bigger builds too” according to the young and fashionable.
Psychology student Paige McGowen and dental nurse Brianna Dezeeuw, both 21, said they loved the new trend but would always “bring pants” for when they left the beach or pool.
“I feel like it’s a big European trend, you see photo’s of people from overseas and they’re wearing the very high cut, cheeky bums (swimmers),” Ms Dezeeuw said.
“I remember when I started wearing them, mum would be like, `can you put some pants on please?’.”
Ms McGowen said the racy swimwear would “definitely” be the biggest trend this summer.
“Every person you see at the beach has them on,” she said.
“I don’t know, I guess (older people) would raise their eyebrows a little bit but I feel like now everyone else, like more people are doing it, so it’s more normal.
“And your tan’s also better.”
