A rapidly expanding fast food chain has lodged plans to transform the former Pizza Hut restaurant at Lake Haven into a slick new drive through.
It comes as another restaurant chain is looking to spend more than $1 million turning a nearby corner shop into a swanky new outdoor diner.
Fresh from launching its latest outlet at Belmont last month, Mexicana chain Guzman Y Gomez has lodged plans to transform the old Pizza Hut building into a new restaurant and drive through.
The restaurant, to open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, would be comprised of a customer service counter, drive through service booths, dining area, office, store room, cool room, back of house areas, waste area and amenities
The 58-seat capacity restaurant would include 44 inside and 14 seats outside with the dual drive-through lanes able to accommodate 14 queued cars at any one time.
The distinctive Pizza Hut building would be given a black and yellow makeover while a 12m-high pylon sign on Goobarabah Ave would point to the new restaurant’s location.
The new Guzman Y Gomez would feature 27 parking spaces, which is more than the 22 required under the existing planning controls.
“The proposed establishment of the food and drink premises at the site, operating 24/7, is anticipated to have ongoing positive social and economic impacts on the local Lake Haven area as well as the broader community,” the development application (DA) states.
“The proposal will generate direct ongoing employment opportunities including a range of full time, part time, and casual positions, primarily geared towards the younger cohort.”
Meanwhile modern Australian cuisine restaurant chain Rashays has lodged a DA to convert an existing commercial premises at `shop 901’ into a food and drink premises.
The proposed Rashays restaurant would boast seating for 160 diners including 138 inside and 32 outside in a new alfresco dining area with a total combined ground floor area of 389sq m.
The DA states the estimated cost of the development would be a staggering $1,148,295.
“The proposed change of use is contained within the existing commercial building occupying the subject land and will not have any adverse visual impact on either scenic quality or the streetscape,” the DA states.
“The proposal will generate social and economic benefits for the community; will not have an adverse impact on the natural or built environment; and will not adversely impact the amenity or utility of neighbouring properties.”
