Upgrades to water and sewerage infrastructure to the tune of $21 million will cater for 5000 more houses for Gosford and progression of the Warnervale Town Centre.

The funding deeds have been signed with work on upgrading the water and sewerage systems in Gosford to start in August.

Terrigal State Liberal MP Adam Crouch announced the latest progress in the Gosford and Warnervale infrastructure upgrades today.

“This is such important work,” he said.

“Without this infrastructure, nothing really happens. The contracts have now been signed to deliver $12.5 million for upgrades to fresh water supply infrastructure in Gosford, and $8.5 million for new and upgraded sewer mains and pumps in the Warnervale Town Centre.”

He said the upgrades would allow for the future construction of 5000 new homes in Gosford city centre, while also helping to develop Warnervale into a major residential hub.

Central Coast Council’s director of water and sewer Jamie Loader said the project was about increasing the capacity of the water and sewerage network to allow for future development.

“It’s about catering for the town centre and servicing new homes,” he said.

He said residential developments were progressing at Warnervale, with council on the look out for more commercial development opportunities.

Upper House Liberal MP Taylor Martin said development and population growth was occurring across the Central Coast.

“Over the next 20 years we are going to have 95,000 new residents across the Central Coast,” he said.

“This is the latest chapter to see infrastructure upgraded and more homes. That will go a long way in Gosford.

“Warnervale Town Centre has been coming and going for a long time, so it’s great to see this investment to make sure Warnervale Town Centre can continue.”

Central Coast Mayor Lisa Matthews said the funding boost would assist council to deliver

water and sewage infrastructure in two key growth areas.

“This additional funding will help provide a reliable water service to the Gosford CBD to meet the needs of an increased level of high-rise residential dwellings, the ongoing redevelopment of Gosford Hospital, the completion of the ATO and NSW Financial Services developments and other developments planned for the Gosford CBD area,” she said.

The projects are part of the State Government’s broader $51 million commitment under the Housing Acceleration Fund on the Central Coast with a third water infrastructure project currently being finalised with council.

The projects align with the NSW Government’s Central Coast Regional Plan 2036 that aims to attract new residents, businesses, tourists and cultural activities to the region through improved planning controls and strategic development.
