Like many small business owners, Kyla Daniels had sleepless nights working out the best way forward for her shop as a result of COVID-19.
While she has had no shortage of customers at her Gosford business Cakes By Kyla since the implementation of social distancing, she is moving to contactless delivery only from Wednesday.
Mrs Daniels said the decision was made in the best interests of her family and her customers.
“We want to encourage people to stay home unless it is completely necessary,” she said.
“We tried takeaway and, in our small space, I felt it wasn’t safe enough.”
Cakes By Kyla will release schedule of suburbs covered on specific days for orders prepaid the day before. There is a minimum order of six cupcakes or a drip cake and deliveries will be free. Mrs Daniels estimated they would have scope for 10-12 deliveries a day.
Gosford RSL has moved to a takeaway and home delivery service while the club is closed.
CEO Russell Cooper said “it’s pretty tough times”.
“We have a skeleton crew on, but out motels are still open. At the moment we are trying to find work wherever we can for whoever we can,” he said.
“Thankfully we are in a better position to other hospitality venues as we are in a strong financial position. We are able to pay our staff in full this week and next week.”
He said the takeaway and home delivery menu included a variety of meals as well as frozen meals that people can store. They can also access alcohol.
“We have a lot of the RSL classics like the roast and schnitzel and others such as Irish stew, beef stroganoff and chicken curry,” Mr Cooper said.
“Just in the last few days, the schnitzel is by far the most popular meal. It’s good, proper RSL food.”
Mr Cooper said a lot of hospitality workers were now out of work as a result of COVID-19.
“I feel for everybody in the industry,” he said.
“This thing will be over one day and we, along with other venues, want to be ready to open back up and give staff their jobs back.”
