A young man who terrified onlookers, including dozens of students, when he tried to ram his way out of a police chase in a stolen car just days ago has pleaded guilty.

Jordan Williams, 22, faced Gosford Local Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to stealing a car, driving while suspended, failing to stop during a police pursuit, using the vehicle as a weapon to resist arrest and hindering officers.

Williams also pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud, larceny, hindering officers and two counts of assaulting police in relation to two separate, earlier matters.

Three sets of agreed facts state despite his young age Williams had a lengthy criminal record as an adult who, despite having obvious mental health problems, knew the difference “between right and wrong”.

The unemployed public housing resident was granted bail after pinching a $1100 mountain bike from out the front of a Gosford pub in August before being stopped a few hours later by police.

Two officers stopped Williams in the street because he matched the description of a man wanted for stealing an Avanti mountain bike a few hours earlier.

But he tried to run before he was tackled to the ground where he started throwing punches at the officers leaving them bloody and bruised.

He later told them “it doesn’t matter if you charge me, I always get off on mental health”.

A month later on September 18, Williams smashed the window of a Toyota Echo parked on Watt St, Gosford, before stealing a wallet inside.

An agreed set of facts states he used a credit card from the wallet to buy a soft drink at Gosford Train Station before using it to pay for a taxi to Wyoming and a packet of Holiday reds cigarettes from a service station.

On Tuesday, September 24, Williams was captured on CCTV walking along White St at East Gosford.

A woman inside her house was having a cup of tea when she heard her dogs barking and went to the window and saw him sitting in the driver’s seat of her Mitsubishi Outlander about 2.05pm.

She ran outside waving her hands yelling “What are you doing? Stop” but he reversed out of her driveway hitting a letterbox and a tree as he left.

Williams managed to get the car stuck on a small retaining wall before fleeing on foot and getting tackled to the ground.

About 3.15pm police were patrolling North Crescent, Wyoming, when they saw him in the stolen car.

They initiated a pursuit towards Maidens Brush Rd but terminated it because of danger to the public.

Multiple police cars picked up the pursuit again but as Williams approached the intersection of Manns St and Racecourse Rd he hit heavy traffic.

He tried ramming his way through, which was dramatically captured by onlookers on their mobile phones.

“The accused then mounted the footpath near numerous schoolchildren, knocked over a traffic sign before crashing into a brick retaining wall, where the vehicle became stuck,” the facts state.

“One school student is captured on video running for her life as this occurred.”

Williams tried fleeing on foot but was tackled to the ground.

“In regard to the accused’s actions and manner of driving, it cannot be understated, the extreme danger that the accused put himself, police and members of the public in,” the facts state.

“The disgusting lack of care or consideration for anyone else should not be overlooked and it is with only sheer luck that the accused did not kill someone during this series of offending.”

Williams will be sentenced on November 11.
