When police tapped on the window of Jane Ann Leach’s red Volkswagen Golf they found her sitting in the driver’s seat naked from the waist down.

But the 47-year-old’s lack of pants or underwear quickly became the least of her worries after she later returned a gobsmacking blood alcohol reading of 0.356.

“She’s lucky she’s not dead at that reading,” Magistrate Robert Munro said at her sentencing on Monday.

Leach faced Wyong Local Court after previously pleading guilty to one count of high range drink-driving.

An agreed set of facts states Leach had been drinking at Wyong Leagues Club with a male counterpart since about midday on November 10 when police started getting reports of a “female stumbling around her car before getting in” about 7.45pm.

Police began patrolling the area and found her sitting in her stationary Golf near the intersection of Marks and Howelston roads.

“Of note, the accused was not wearing any pants or under garments,” the facts state.

“Police are of the opinion that the accused was seriously affected by intoxicating liquor.

“She required full assistance to exit her vehicle and walk to the police vehicle and again from the police vehicle into the police station.”

Her Legal Aid solicitor told the court Leach’s “saving grace” was her otherwise clean record.

He said she was “ashamed and embarrassed” and had started seeing a psychologist about her drinking and some childhood trauma she experienced.

The magistrate said he had never seen such a high reading and while she had an “excellent” driving record over 30 years he just could not go past the “extreme” risk she had posed to other motorists.

Mr Munro sentenced her to an intensive correction order for 10 months, with 75 hours of community service, disqualified her from driving for nine months and ordered she have an interlock device fitted in her car for a further two years.
