FIRE has ripped through a two storey house at Terrigal this morning after gas cylinders along the outside of it ignited shortly before 5am.
Fire & Rescue NSW crews were called to Borrowdale Court after residents fled the property when LPG gas cylinders caught fire.
Three crews attended and managed to contain the blaze within minutes.
Police were also in attendance.
A Fire & Rescue NSW spokesman said fire crews conducted “salvage and overhaul” before handing the scene over to police.
Shortly before 7.30am police called the firefighters back after the fire reignited in the roof.
When fire crews arrived they found the house well alight.
They called for back-up and a further two fire trucks arrived.
Firefighters worked hard to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
The spokesman said the fire was extinguished by 8am with two crews remaining at the scene to mop up.
He said the house suffered extensive damage and “the integrity of the building was compromised”.
Police are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
