IT’S a common rule among the redheaded community — never wear an orange outfit.

So when Umina Beach redhead Phoebe Blogg was asked to design an outfit for Fanta Australia’s first ever fashion line — FANTA PANTS — she knew it was going to be a challenge.

“I would never wear an outfit that was orange, so I broke a few rules,” she said.

The 18-year-old designed a transparent perspex jacket for the competition, complete with pockets to fit a bottle or can of Fanta and built in straws for easy drinking — and orange lining to fit the brief. If you happen to spill your Fanta while wearing the jacket, it can just be wiped off with a cloth.

Ms Blogg was announced one of the five winners of the competition, and couldn’t believe her luck.

“I heard about the competition through The Fashion Institute in Sydney where I’m studying,” she said.

“I thought ‘why not’ and sent though a quick sketch. When my careers manager got back to me and said I was one of the five winners, I couldn’t believe it. I won $500 and my design was made.”

The winning jacket even made an appearance during Fashion Week in Sydney, worn by YouTube sensation Alan Tsibulya.

Ms Blogg, who graduated from Brisbane Waters Secondary College in Woy Woy last year, is studying Diploma of Fashion Business.

She has had a brilliant start to the year, not only winning the Fanta competition but also being selected for a trip to New York in August with the Institute.

Ms Blogg said her goal is to become a fashion journalist or director. However, after her recent success, she might start looking into design and textiles.

Fanta worked with The Fashion Institute on the competition, and put forward a brief to students to create pieces that incorporate functional and design elements for enhancing the drinking experience of Fanta.
