A $2.8 million application for the relocation of a high school in Gosford has been flagged as a state significant development.

The application, lodged by Employment and Training Australia (ET Australia), is currently on public exhibition seeking approval for a Year 7-10 high school campus in the Imperial Shopping Centre and a Year 11-12 campus at 125 Donnison St.

It is classified as state significant as it requests approval for the establishment of a new school.

The DA proposes the secondary school be spread across the two sites, with ET Australia indicating they had outgrown their existing school at the Parkside building, 123 Donnison St, where they have been based for eight years.

They have also made the decision to expand their services to Years 11 – 12 at the site of their adult training facility.

“There is increasing pressure to provide for further space to cater for the additional student enrolments and to provide a high quality learning environment,” planning documents state.

“In delivering this extra space across the two sites, it is also hoped that improved educational spaces can be provided to students, providing an improved learning experience.”

The move has also coincided with a lease termination at the Parkside site as of December 2020 to pave the way for the Gosford Regional Library.

Central Coast Council voted for the location of the long-awaited regional library last year, opting to separate the development from the Regional Performing Arts Centre.

The proposal states the school development will create 26 full time construction jobs and an additional 14 full time jobs on completion.

The main work includes internal cosmetic, non-structural works at each site, along with signage. The proposed location inside the shopping centre is currently unused retail space.

Years 7-10 will have 200 students and 35 staff, while Years 11-12 will have around 80 students and 14 staff. Kibble Park will be used for recess and lunch breaks.

The DA is on exhibition until July 8.
