AFTER spending 440 long days in the So Cares Wyong Animal Care Facility, Coco the dog is in desperate need of a loving home.

At just over two years old, the adorable chocolate-brown staffy has spent half her life in the shelter.

It usually takes an average of just 22 days for staff to rehome stray and unwanted animals.

Coco’s heartbreaking 14-month stay makes her So Cares’ longest impounded resident since the Charmhaven facility opened in 2014.

The loveable four-legged “character” was found wandering the streets of Watanobbi in November 2015.

Her original owners were not in a position to reclaim her and Coco has been patiently waiting for a new home ever since.

Full of love and affection, Coco has attracted a “fan club” among staff and volunteers and loves nothing more than getting out and enjoying the fresh air.

“Coco is such a sweet little thing,” animal attendant Christina Giles said.

“She’s become very stressed and anxious after being institutionalised for so long, but as soon as you take her out on a walk she relaxes so much.

“It would be a dream come true to find her a home.”

Coco loves playing fetch and tug-o-war with her toys and will do anything for a tasty treat.

She can be found cuddling up to a teddy bear at night for comfort and is particularly fond of chewing a ball for “stress relief”.

Eager to please and very well-mannered, Coco has been fully assessed by a professional animal behaviour specialist and is considered non-aggressive and highly trainable.

Ms Giles said it was going to be “bittersweet” to see the much-loved pooch leave the shelter.

“We get so attached to these guys and we love them so dearly, but they need to go and live a happy life in a loving home,” she said.

“There’s always a place missing in our hearts once they go.”
