Satay sticks with a creamy peanut sauce, dumplings, spicy tacos and burgers with an edge can be found at many street food stalls across the world.
Here on the Central Coast, all of these options can be found at Ettalong Diggers new Street Food Kitchen.
Ettalong Diggers executive chef Matt Fayers and his team have created dishes inspired by thriving street food stalls worldwide.
“The idea came about when I went on a food trend tour across London,” Mr Fayers said.
“I could see street food everywhere, it was really popular.
“I immediately thought that would be great to bring back to Ettalong Diggers.”
The Street Food Kitchen is located inside the Diggers club, perfect for an afternoon snack with a cold drink or sharing with a group of friends.
“To bring it inside is ideal and makes the venue different and more modern,” Mr Fayers said.
“It will also encourage more young people.”
He described the menu as “simple street food that is packed with flavour” – and that is exactly what it is.
We sampled a selection of dishes starting with the delectable, finger licking Indian onion pakoras wit a spiced relish. Crunchy with the hit of spices ideally paired with the sweet onions.
Next the dumplings packed full of pork and prawns and served with a dipping sauce to match.
The Thai skewers are a must and we sampled the beef satay, pork and lemongrass as well as the prawn and lemongrass.
While the beef satay is hard to top with the divine peanut sauce, the lemongrass flavour in the pork and prawn skewers was delicious. Simple food, yet unbeatable flavour combinations.
The menu will feature Mexican, Japanese and Asian dishes, along with burgers, fish and chips and pizza.
“We will be adding specials regularly. With street food, you can do everything. It’s really open,” Mr Fayers said.
The Street Food Kitchen kicked off last week for lunch and dinners on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but from December 23 will run seven days a week.
