It’s been a long wait for thousands of students across the Central Coast and the results are finally in.
Gosford High School has emerged on top achieving 263 Band 6 scores, along with two of its students making the 2019 First in Course merit list.
Olivia Russell was First in Course for French Beginners, while Patrick Fang was equal First in Course for mathematics. He was one of eight joint winners in this category.
Ms Russell said she found out she was First in Course last week.
“It was really crazy, I never even considered that,” she told the Express.
“I knew I’d do well but I never thought I’d achieve a state ranking.”
Ms Russell, of Saratoga, said when she initially took up French in Year 8 she hated it.
“It wasn’t until Year 11 that it really clicked. I put so much time into it and figured out the concepts.”
She said she was planning to do a double degree in design and media at the University of NSW, however was going to enjoy the rest of the holidays relaxing.
“It’s a weight off, there’s a long limbo period between the end of the HSC and the results,” she said.
Gosford High School is always a top performer, moving up the NSW rankings from 58th to 52nd this year.
Central Coast Grammar School was next in line with 100 Band 6 scores, coming in 100th in the state.
The school has announced that one third of its students achieved an ATAR over 90, while 12 per cent scored an ATAR of over 95 and 64 per cent recorded over 80.
Central Coast Grammar School headmaster William Low said he was pleased so many students had achieved their aspirations.
“A large number of offers for university study have already been forthcoming for a wide range of degrees. The offers to students were from universities within NSW, across Australia and the USA,” he said.
“The continually improving percentage of students with ATARs over 80 and over 90 has been an ongoing emphasis within the school.”
Student Natalie Band, who was also the Grammar School’s Dux for 2019, was honoured in the NSW Board of Studies All Rounders Achievers list for achieving Band 6 in 10 or more units of study.
Meanwhile St Edward’s Christian Brothers’ College achieved 30 Band 6 scores, while both Henry Kendall High School and Kincumber High School achieved 24.
St Peters Catholic College received 23 Band 6 scores, followed by MacKillop Catholic College with 18, St Joseph’s Catholic College with 16 and Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College The Entrance Campus with 14.
