Central Coast Restaurants: Reign Burger Co, Wyong
It’s a cross between a burger and a cob loaf which has become an internet sensation and popular choice at Reign Burger Co in Wyong.
Central Coast
Don't miss out on the headlines from Central Coast. Followed categories will be added to My News.
During our search for great food across the Central Coast, I have eaten my fair share of amazing burgers.
Giant burgers, breakfast burgers, healthy burgers, gooey, cheesy burgers and the list goes on.
They are all unique in their own way and my latest find is without doubt in a league of its own.
Reign Burger Co has been open for seven months and has become famous for its unique cob burgers.
Owner Rindy Moroney said the idea for the cob burger just came to her one day.
“I can’t say if I’m the first person to do it, but I just had the idea one day and ran with it,” she said.
“Next thing the internet went into meltdown so I ended up building a menu based off the cob burger.”
Ms Moroney decided to go into the burger game after a background in hospitality and working in a warehouse.
“I wanted to do something different and when the opportunity came up, I took it,” she said.
“I have always liked little niche burger joints. When I travelled to the US I ate a lot of burgers and thought Wyong would be a great place for burgers.”
The menu has five burgers and five cob burgers on offer. We sampled the O.G Cob which was a beef burger with Reign Burger Co’s original cob top filling including bacon, spinach and cream cheese.
The flavour was amazing, from the fresh beef patty with cheese and caramelised onion to the creamy cob topping with crunchy bacon bits. There is no ladylike way to eat this burger, but that’s half the fun.
Next we sampled the most popular buttermilk chicken burger with camembert cheese, guacamole and a sriracha mayonnaise. The crispy chicken was the ideal pairing with the rich cheese and spicy kick in the mayonnaise.
Another popular dish at Reign and Co is the Cob Dipper which is a small cob loaf served with the ideal dippers – chips and nuggets.
The restaurant has developed a strong following online and a flick through the social media pages reveals a world of unbelievable burger creations, including the most decadent and outrageous dessert burgers.
“We try and put ourselves out there and be as ridiculous as possible,” Ms Moroney said.
“The best part of the job is how creative we can be all of the time.”
Reign and Co has a burger of the week and when we visited it was called The Toasted Cheese, a buttermilk chicken burger with two toasted cheese sandwiches as the burger bun.
So cool.
