Central Coast restaurants: Point Cafe Avoca Beach

It’s arguably got the very best view of any cafe on the Central Coast and fabulous food as well. The Point Cafe at Avoca Beach a local institution and the focus of this week’s Express Advocate food feature.

The Point cafe is an institution on the Avoca beachfront.

A key component of the H & H Catering family, the cafe is popular with early morning swimmers through to lunching businesspeople and everyone in between.

The menu is top-notch, the service impossible to fault and the view out to the ocean is unbeatable.

Thumbing my nose at the grey skies I ordered a Summer Buzz juice — consisting of watermelon, pineapple, orange and mint, upon my arrival, before perusing the all-day breakfast as well as the lunch options.

Spoiled for choice, we went with the vegetarian delight from the breakfast menu — featuring baby spinach, roasted pumpkin, beetroot, heirloom tomatoes and grilled halloumi, topped with one poached egg and dukkah on rye sourdough.

We also went with another crowd favourite in the lunch shared platter, featuring The Point’s signature lemon pepper squid, grilled barramundi, smoked salmon, assorted dips, pancetta, artisan breads, char grilled vegetables, Danish feta and sun-dried tomatoes.

I could say the picture-perfect dishes were too good to eat but they were too good not to eat!

The signature lemon pepper squid was superb, while the flavour combination of the all-day breakfast dish demonstrated why it is so popular.

H & H Catering owner Kerry Harman and her late husband Alan have always been conscious of giving back to the community; with the cafe supporting a host of causes including Zonta and the annual 5 Lands Walk.

The H & H Catering family has expanded to include Goldfish Bar and Kitchen at Roche Estate at the Hunter Valley and The Meeting Point, a new cafe at Brentwood Village, which is scheduled to open in the coming weeks.

But The Point cafe will always be “home” for H & H Catering, with the venue to remain open through phase two of the Avoca Beach foreshore development and beyond.
