A Tumbi Umbi man has been charged with murdering his elderly mum on the state’s Central Coast after an alleged attack with a pot plant.
David Andrew Mapp, 56, was arrested on Thursday afternoon with his matter briefly mentioned before Wyong Local Court on Friday morning.
He has been charged with one count of murder and one count of driving motor vehicle during a disqualification period.
NSW Police say about 5.15pm yesterday emergency services were called to a home on Eastern Rd, Tumbi Umbi following reports of concern for welfare.
“On arrival, NSW Ambulance paramedics located an 82-year-old woman deceased in the home with head injuries,” a police statement read.
“Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and arrested a 56-year-old man at the scene where he was taken to Wyong Police Station”.
A crime scene was established which was examined by specialist police. Detectives and forensic officers spent Thursday evening and Friday at the home, emerging with wrapped items of evidence.
A tow truck also removed a red Toyota Corolla from the scene.
Neighbours said the man had lived with his mother for many years.
A close neighbour told the Express she didn’t know Mrs Wilson however had seen a man who lived at the house often walk up and down the street drinking a can of coke.
“It’s so close to home, it’s just so sad that this has happened,” she said.
Police will allege the man – who is the woman’s son – attacked her earlier that morning with a pot plant before leaving the home and returning to contact emergency services.
It will be further alleged that the pair lived together.
Mapp did not appear when his matter was briefly mentioned before Wyong Local Court on Friday.
His legal representative did not apply for bail and asked the matter to be adjourned.
Charge sheets tendered to the court state that between 7am and 9.37am on July 28, Mapp allegedly drove a motor vehicle whilst being disqualified from driving.
Mapp will next appear in court on September 20.
