Central Coast Covid: Central Coast records 27 new Covid cases

The Central Coast has more than 200 Covid cases since the latest outbreak, with 27 new cases announced since 8pm Friday.

The Central Coast has recorded 27 new Covid cases, bringing the region’s total to 220.

The cases are included in the NSW total of 1599 to 8pm on Friday night.

The coast has had a week of high numbers along with the death of a woman in her 50s at Gosford Hospital on Thursday and a number of school closures due to positive cases.

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) confirmed the 27 new cases with 19 linked to known cases.

“The source of infection for eight cases is under investigation,” a CCLHD spokeswoman said.

“Eleven cases were in the community while infectious.”

There has also been a concerning number of exposure sites, with the message for coasties to remain vigilant and follow the stay at home orders.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced that there had been 42,000 Covid cases since the latest outbreak.

Mr Hazzard also announced that eight million people have had their first vaccinations.

CCLHD has announced new exposure sites. Anyone who attended the following venues on the dates and times listed is a casual contact. Casual contacts must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received, even if you have had a test in recent days:

A Central Coast woman in her 50s has died with Covid.

The death comes as the region records 26 of the 1542 NSW cases as at 8pm on Thursday night.

The local woman died at Gosford Hospital. It is the region's first death since the latest outbreak.

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) has confirmed the death.

“Sadly, the woman who had an underlying medical condition died at Gosford Hospital yesterday,” a CCLHD spokeswoman said.

“We extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends.”

She said of the 26 new cases, 18 are linked to known cases while the source of infection for eight cases is under investigation.

“Seventeen cases were in the community while infectious. There have now been 193 local cases of COVID-19 in the Central Coast Local Health District since the start of the current outbreak.”

Deputy Premier John Barilaro called out to the coast, describing Covid numbers as “stubborn” and urged locals to continue to get tested and vaccinated.

It comes as Tuggerah Public School has closed with a member of the school community testing positive to the virus.

“Approximately 60 students and seven staff are present on the school grounds today,” Central Coast Parliamentary Secretary Adam Crouch said.

“Parents and carers are asked to collect their children from the school grounds immediately.

“All students and staff are asked to self-isolate until they receive further advice from NSW Health. Anyone who is unwell or has developed symptoms should also get tested.”

The Central Coast has recorded 22 new Covid cases and 15 new exposure sites.

The new cases are part of NSW’s 1405 cases to 8pm on Wednesday night.

This brings the region’s total to 167 since the start of the latest outbreak and confirms that the coast will not be coming out of lockdown with some of the other regional areas on Saturday.

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) said 13 of the 22 cases were linked to known cases.

“The source of infection for nine cases is under investigation,” a CCLHD spokeswoman said.

“Twenty cases were in the community while infectious.”

NSW Health chief medical officer Kerry Chant once again reiterated the concern on the coast, urging residents to “please be vigilant and take up any opportunity to be vaccinated”.

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro confirmed the coast would not come out of lockdown and said “it is concerning what is happening on the Central Coast”. He urged vigilance and for people to limit mobility.

The State Government also unveiled a list of freedoms for when the state hits 70 per cent double vaccination rates.

Brooke Avenue Public School at Killarney Vale remains closed on Thursday to allow NSW Health extra time for to undertake contact tracing.

Central Coast Parliamentary Secretary Adam Crouch said the school grounds were immediately closed at 1.45pm on Tuesday, following confirmation that a member of the school community was infectious with Covid.

“Approximately 65 students and 20 staff were on the school grounds at the same time as the positive case,” Mr Crouch said.

“All students and staff have been asked to self-isolate until they receive further advice from NSW Health.

“The suburbs of Bateau Bay, Blue Bay, Killarney Vale, Long Jetty, Shelly Beach, The Entrance, The Entrance North and Toowoon Bay remain of high concern to our Health authorities, because the number of active cases in this area has rapidly grown from nine last Wednesday to 37 today.”
