A former Sydney Kings player has been scolded by a magistrate and told to take responsibility after being found with a bag of cocaine at a pub in Bondi.
Callum David Jenkins, 29, from the Central Coast, is a former member of the Sydney Kings squad and made a couple of brief appearances in the NBL in 2012 and 2013.
On Tuesday he escaped a conviction after being found with a bag of cocaine at a pub in Bondi.
The towering figure, who now plays basketball on the Central Coast, made the trip to Waverley Local Court on Tuesday after being charged with one count of possess prohibited drug.
The agreed facts stated he was caught with a bag of coke weighing 0.43g by a police sniffer dog outside Hotel Bondi during the night of Saturday, December 12 last year.
He pleaded guilty on Tuesday and Magistrate Ross Hudson sentenced him to a conditional release order for six months without a conviction.
Magistrate Hudson noted his otherwise clean record in handing down the sentence and warned Jenkins he needed to set a good example if he wanted to pursue coaching in basketball.
“(As a coach) you take on a real responsibility as a leader of the team. Not just on the court but off it.”
