Booker Bay: James Chapman charged with dealing with $1.6 million in proceeds of crime

A Central Coast man has been charged with allegedly dealing with a total of $1.62 million in proceeds of crime with a further three victims identified, a court has heard.

A Central Coast man has faced court charged with dealing with more than $1.6 million which police allege was the proceeds of crime.

James Christopher Chapman appeared in person at Gosford Local Court on Friday where he is facing seven counts of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Charge sheets tendered in court allege the 39-year-old from Booker Bay dealt with amounts of money ranging from $100,008 to $324,964 seven times between July 2 and November 24 in 2021.

The charge sheets allege the money belonged to six different victims and Mr Chapman dealt with it “knowing it was proceeds of crime”.

Mr Chapman stood briefly when his matter was mentioned in court on Friday where the police prosecutor said “three further victims” had been identified and there were additional charges expected to be laid.

The court heard Mr Chapman’s lawyer had not received the full brief of evidence against his client and a four-week adjournment was sought.

The matter was adjourned to February 10 when Mr Chapman will be excused from attending court if he is legally represented.
