A police officer has been charged with manslaughter over a fatal crash between a police vehicle and motorcycle in April.
An investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of 28-year-old male rider – Jack Roberts – after his motorcycle and a police vehicle collided on Blue Haven Way, Blue Haven, on April 16 2020.
The police officer – a 49-year-old male sergeant from the northern region – has been charged with manslaughter, dangerous drive occasioning death, and negligent drive occasioning death.
He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear at Gosford Local Court on October 30.
NSW Police have indicated the officer’s duty status will be reviewed.
The investigation centred around the alleged police pursuit and its tragic end, along with the amount of street lighting at the scene and the fact that Mr Roberts did not have headlights on the bike when he was attempting to flee from police.
Mr Roberts was first seen travelling the wrong way along the Motorway Link without lights at 2.30am on the morning of the accident.
