Motorcyclist Jack Roberts was attempting to flee police when he was flung from his machine before going under the wheels of a pursuing police car.

Crash investigators will review dashcam footage from the police vehicle as part of an independent critical incident investigation into the death of Mr Roberts at Blue Haven on Thursday.

The investigation will centre around the pursuit and its tragic end, which saw Mr Roberts run over by the patrol car after he fell off his trail bike trying to make a right hand turn into Blue Haven Way.

It will also look into the amount of street lighting at the scene and the fact that Mr Roberts did not have headlights on the bike when he was attempting to flee from police.

And it shall also look into Mr Roberts’ history and why he was first seen travelling the wrong way along the Motorway Link without lights at 2.30am, the action which prompted the officer to try and pull him over.

The initial report that the two vehicles had collided has now been discounted.

Tuggerah Lakes commander Superintendent John Gralton said the shattered officer, who he described as a diligent and ethical sergeant, had his full support.

The investigation continued as tributes flowed for Mr Roberts, who died at the scene of the incident at 2.30am.

Jasmin O’Neill posted that she would “make sure our babies know exactly the

man you were, the kind man I knew, the loving, funniest, strong willed”.

Mr Roberts, a father of two, posted on Facebook exactly a month before his death a boxing image featuring the words “You can’t beat a man that battles with himself every day”.

The comments section of that post has been filled with loveheart, broken heart and angel emojis in the past 24 hours, as well as a comment “we love you Jack fly high xxx”.
