Luckily for the Magpies he was looking for something and found a home playing Australian rules football at Don Small Oval.

Denniss has been an integral member of the club ever since, where he has played and captained winning teams, coached and served on the committee over the past 35 years.

He has seen many highs and lows during that time, including getting to captain grand final winning teams, play senior football with his son Liam and the tragic events of six years ago, when the much loved clubhouse was razed to the ground by fire.

After the game he was chaired from the field

to the delight of those present to view the historic game.

Denniss was presented with the match ball signed by all his teammates and mounted in a glass case following the game.
