Not many people can say they met their husband or wife when they were just five years of age.
But Narara’s Jacqui Bickley and Tuggerah’s Mitchell Carlin can.
The loved-up couple, both aged 23, recently got engaged and are screaming it from the rooftops.
The couple’s disability service provider Aruma are also ecstatic with the news and put together a gorgeous video of the special proposal.
The video shows the couple when they were young friends through to their teenage years when they started dating at 17.
Fast forward six years and Mitchell decided to be a true gentleman and ask permission to pop the question.
He planned the proposal with the help of his friend and Aruma support worker Luke Bowolick. The duo got Jacqui’s support worker Emmalie Skelton in on the secret before hitting the shops to find the perfect ring.
They found the idea waterside location at The Haven, prepared a delicious food hamper and Mitchell even got down on one knee and serenaded his beloved bride to be.
“Yes, yes I will marry you baby,” Jacqui said grinning from ear to ear.
Mitchell’s mum Robyn Black said she couldn’t be prouder of the couple.
“We absolutely love it, this is all Mitchell has wanted and Jacqui is so excited,” she said.
“They are both so pumped and so in love. You can see it with the way they look at each other.
“When they were 17 they just decided they wanted to be boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Ms Black said none of this was possible without Mitchell and Jacqui’s support workers.
“They are just amazing,” she said. “They worked so hard to help these guys have the perfect day. I’m just so proud and so is Jacqui’s mum Tracey and dad Duane.”
She said they will have an engagement party in February before planning the big day.
