The new $39.5 million primary school at Warnervale will have to be further expanded within 10 years of being built just to cope with demand.

According to the Education Department’s own planning documents, released on Friday, the school will cater for 460 students in 20 classrooms.

But its environmental impact statement (EIS) reveals over the next 20 years the coast’s population is expected to increase by 70,000 to 409,450.

This will see an increase of about 865 primary school kids in the Wyong Primary Cluster, which includes the existing Warnervale Public School and 11 other schools stretching from Tuggerah to Wadalba.

The EIS said if the new school was increased to 26 classrooms it would “meet enrolment demand to 2031”.

“The design is intended to account for the possibility of future expansion of teaching and core facilities for up to 1,000 students,” the EIS states.

The new school will have to be expanded before it is even 10 years old.

Here are five things you need to know about the new primary school at Warnervale.

1/. It does not have a name, yet.

The former Warnervale Public School was opened on this site at 75 Warnervale Rd in 1958 and was in use until 2008 when the school moved to its current school on the corner of Warnervale and Minnesota roads. A name for this new school has not been decided but feedback is expected now the plans have been put on public exhibition.

It will feature parking and playgrounds but is yet to boast a name.

4/. How much will it cost?

This all depends on which parts of the 98-page EIS and its 35 appendices you’re looking at. The initial capital investment value of the project was $31,875,311 excluding GST.

This quickly jumped to $35,899,324 by the time the project was costed out leaving taxpayers with a total project of $39,489,256 including GST — so long as no unforeseen issues, delays or bad weather blows out the cost.

The school will cost upwards of $39.5 million.

It is expected the project will generate approximately 35 construction-related jobs and a further 32 permanent roles including a principal, 18 classroom teachers, five teaching staff (non-class), three teachers aids, three admin staff, one site manager and another general assistant.

To find out more there will be two community information sessions today at Warnervale Public School from 2pm to 3.30pm and 5pm to 6.30pm.
