Strike Force Sulfur: Matthew Lawrie arrested, denied bail

A Jerrabomberra man has been charged with a raft of offences including drug supply after a series of raids conducted by NSW Police’s Strike Force Sulfur.

Four men charged over alleged drug supply

A Jerrabomberra man has been charged with offences including drug supply as part of NSW Police’s Strike Force Sulfur.

Matthew Lawrie, 27, was arrested at 11am on Monday and charged with 12 offences.

Mr Lawrie is the latest person police have arrested in relation to an alleged criminal group.
These offences included drug related offences; five counts of supplying a prohibited drug and supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

He was also charged with driving a vehicle to menace another person with intent, stalking or intimidating to intend fear of physical harm, destroy or damage property and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Mr Lawrie was also charged with offences related to being involved in a criminal group; knowingly derive material benefit from criminal group, and knowingly direct activities of criminal group.

On Monday Mr Lawrie was refused bail by Magistrate Roger Clisdell at Queanbeyan Local Court.

Mr Lawrie will return to court on November 8.

This follows the arrests of four men: Joshua Cassie, 27; Peter Ellis, 33; Andrew Hallam, 25; and a 37-year-old man.

Mr Cassie, Mr Ellis and Mr Hallam all applied for bail at Queanbeyan Local Court.

Mr Ellis and Mr Hallam were granted conditional bail while Mr Cassie was remanded in custody.

The three men will return to court on November 8.

The 37-year-old man was granted police bail and will face Queanbeyan Local Court on October 10.

Established in September 2021 Strike Force Sulfur has investigated the supply of drugs in the Canberra and Queanbeyan area.

Arrests made by the Strike Force arose after a series of police raids in Queanbeyan and Canberra, where drugs, cash, weapons and Outlaw Motorcycle Gang paraphernalia were seized.
