A “kind hearted” Queanbeyan man is being mourned after falling to his death at Gibraltar Falls, the second tragedy at the falls in a week.

Patrick Prevett had been visiting the popular tourist destination with mates near Canberra about 5.25pm on Saturday when he slipped at the top of the waterfall.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to try and locate the 22-year-old, with his body found unconscious in the water at 6.05pm.

Sadly he could not be revived and died at the scene.

Mr Prevett’s death is the second tragedy at Gibraltar falls inside of a week with Acton teen Tom Livingstone losing his life after falling from the waterfall on February 12.

A GoFundMe has since been created to raise funds for the Queanbeyan man’s funeral while supporting his family during this difficult time.

“Devastatingly the Prevett family has lost a son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle and a friend,” the fundraiser said.

“Pat was a young and kind-hearted man who had so much life in front of him.

“His family are so proud of the man he was and the life he was building, he is now watching over us all.

“His passing has shattered the hearts of so many family and friends.”

Mr Prevett’s death came only six days after the death of Mr Livingstone, a promising rowing talent originally from Sydney, who lost his footing and also fell off a cliff at the tourist destination.

A Rowing NSW spokesman said the 19-year-old would be remembered as a “down to earth, hardworking oarsman”, having represented his state and country in the sport.

Police tape could be seen at both Gibraltar Falls hiking track entrances after Mr Livingstone’s death, with signage stating they were closed until further notice.

Anyone who witnessed Mr Prevett’s death, who has not already spoken to police, is urged to contact ACT Policing on 131 444.
