Police resources are still on scene at Gibraltar Falls after an Acton teenager fell to his death.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday their resources were at the famous tourist attraction where a 19-year-old tragically lost his life on the weekend.
Emergency services rushed to Corin Rd in Paddys River about 11.15am on Sunday after receiving reports the teenager had fallen off a cliff.
Multiple police, ambulance, and fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene with ACT Parks and Conservation rangers and passers-by performing first aid on the 19-year-old until emergency services arrived.
Despite the best efforts of all involved the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious as officers combed the scene to prepare a report for the coroner.
Police tape could be seen at both Gibraltar Falls hiking track entrances, with signage stating they were closed until further notice.
ACT Parks and Conservation Service spoke of the dangers of Gibraltar Falls on social media on January 31, only two weeks before the tragedy.
“Just a reminder that it is not advisable to swim or walk on Gibraltar Falls (despite what you might’ve heard from friends or online),” the post said.
“Gibraltar Falls is an excellent picnic spot with amazing views from the lookout.
“However, the cliff edges are extremely dangerous. Serious accidents have occurred here when people have ignored the formal tracks and signs.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken to police was urged to contact ACT Policing on 131 444.
