A Canberra man who made headlines for his allegedly botched robbery of a bottle shop where he was accosted by a man with a snack shelf has been arrested.
Mitchell Lloyd Jacka was located after ACT Policing announced he was a wanted man on Wednesday following an alleged robbery at a Mitchell bottle shop on February 16.
He has been charged with aggravated robbery, assault and possessing an offensive weapon and disabling substances with intent.
ACT Magistrates Court heard on Friday that Jacka’s bizarre alleged caper only netted several hundred dollars.
It also led to him being broadcast across multiple media outlets after police released CCTV of the alleged robbery to aid in his capture.
Jacka was seen allegedly in the video demanding cash from a shop attendant while he brandished a knife.
Footage showed the alleged robber cutting a cord attached to the till while the victim fell from the counter and ran out of the shop.
A nearby shopkeeper and bystanders heard her cries for help and allegedly confronted Jacka.
In an unexpected turn of events, the video showed a man – allegedly Jacka – being accosted by a good Samaritan armed with a potato chip shelf who blocked his exit.
The man chased the robber alleged to be Jacka into the store before a tug of war ensued with the shelf.
Police allege Jacka pushed back and barged his way out of the shop.
In court on Friday while wearing white and pink coloured socks and no shoes, Jacka was read his fresh charges by Magistrate Glenn Theakston.
Defence lawyer Ketinia McGowan said there would be no application for bail and Jacka was remanded in custody.
