A man was allegedly stabbed multiple times in his buttock after being accused of “manhandling” a woman, a court has heard.

Police allege on January 9 Matthew James Longmore and co-defendant Jacob John Daniels were socialising at a bar in Tuggeranong with the victim.

Despite socialising together, it is alleged the victim told Mr Longmore he did not like him because of a prior incident where Mr Longmore stole his car.

Longmore and Daniels, along with another companion, left the bar at 10pm, and drove up to the victim and his female companion, police allege.

The woman allegedly tried to get into the car with Longmore and Daniels, but the victim allegedly restrained her in a headlock to stop her from going with them.

Police allege Daniels punched the victim in the face and Mr Longmore stabbed the victim in his left buttock four times with a pair or scissors.

Mr Longmore allegedly said “You just f-----g manhandled a woman” before stabbing the man.

Mr Longmore pleaded not guilty to reckless wounding in ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Mr Daniels, who was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the incident alongside further charges of driving while suspended and possessing a prohibited substance, did not enter any pleas.

Police allege when Mr Daniels and Mr Longmore were arrested on Wednesday during a traffic stop officers found four clip-seal bags of powder suspected to be cocaine.

Police also allege a black replica firearm was found in the car.

Mr Longmore was granted conditional bail despite opposition from prosecutors.

Magistrate Ian Temby said while Mr Longmore had a criminal record, and was still on parole, few of the charges on his record involved violence.

“The stakes are high if he reoffends,” Mr Temby said.

Mr Longmore will appear in court for a pre-hearing mention on May 18.

Mr Daniels was granted bail and will return to court on March 30 for a plea.
