Marc Anthony Jessop charged with manslaughter over Monaro Highway crash

A 48-year-old man allegedly crashed into two cars before colliding with a van near Cooma, killing another man, a court has heard.

A Moruya man charged with manslaughter over a fatal crash on the Monaro Highway will reappear in court on March 8.

Marc Anthony Jessop, 48, is facing charges of manslaughter, driving a conveyance taken without consent, aggravated driving occasioning death, driving while disqualified, not stopping for police and causing bodily harm by misconduct.

Mr Jessop was driving on December 30 when police allege officers attempted to stop him while he was driving a Holden Commodore, on the Monaro Hwy south of Bredbo at 10.30am.

Police allege Mr Jessop did not stop for police, leading to a short pursuit with police.

The car was seen again at 10.50am on the Monaro Hwy and police began a second pursuit began at Williamsdale.

Police will allege Mr Jessop struck two cars before colliding head on with a Mitsubishi Starwagon.

The 56-year old driver of the Mitsubishi was treated at the scene but shortly died.

Mr Jessop and his 55-year-old male passenger were injured in the crash and taken to Canberra Hospital under police guard.

Mr Jessop was listed to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday. However, his lawyer told the court her client had not made an application for bail.

The case was adjourned to March 8, where Mr Jessop will appear again at Queanbeyan Local Court.

Mr Jessop previously appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on January 3, where he was extradited to NSW.

The passenger of the Holden has been charged with being a passenger in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner and will appear at the Queanbeyan Local Court on February 21.
