A man has fronted ACT Magistrates Court after being charged with historic domestic violence charges, including rape, overnight.
A 30-year old man fronted court on Friday facing fresh charges including two counts of common assault, two counts of unlawfully confining someone, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm and sexual intercourse without consent.
The new string of charges relates to alleged offending against one woman between 2011 and 2012.
The defendant’s lawyer, Sarah Boxall of Boxall Legal indicated her client would plead not guilty to the new charges.
He did not apply for bail and bail was refused by Special Magistrate Jane Campbell.
The defendant is also before the court for 24 charges including 11 counts of common assault, two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, three counts of choking someone rendering them insensible or unconscious, four counts of destroying or damaging property not exceeding $5000 and an act of indecency without consent.
The earlier charges relate to three female complainants.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the previous charges.
Statements of facts tendered to the courts relating to earlier charges against the first three complainants allege horrific examples of violence against women and sexual offences from 2012 to 2022.
Police allege in September 2012 the man punched a woman’s vagina and thighs repeatedly and told the complainant “I hope you can never have children.”
Police allege he placed his penis into the woman’s mouth and attempted to urinate in an incident that occurred between 2012 and 2014.
In a 2015 incident police allege the man used his fingers to sexually assault the same complainant after he accused the woman of sleeping with someone else.
The statement of facts allege other examples of the defendant allegedly punching the woman in the chest, pinning her down, placing a towel over her face and pouring water on the towel so she could not breathe and allegedly punching the woman repeatedly in the stomach.
Police allege the man assaulted the second woman on August 25 2019 after accusing her of working as a sex worker.
Police allege the third complainant was thrown to the ground by the defendant during an argument on November 7, 2021.
He will re appear in court for a bail application on February 4 and will appear for a pre-hearing mention on March 8.
