A 44-year-old man has been found dead after a crash in Watson.

The body of the man was found in the wreckage of a Volkswagen Passat which had lost control along Antill St about 2.45am on Tuesday.

In a statement, ACT Policing say the driver drove into a tree before the car came to rest in the front yard of a home.

The 44-year-old driver and sole occupant of the car was found dead by emergency services shortly after.

An inquiry into the circumstance surrounding the collision, including the owner of the vehicle, is underway.

This is the second death on ACT roads in 2023 following the loss of hospitality student Kunal Chopra in a fatal Belconnen truck and vehicle crash.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of Antill St in Watson or Hackett around the time of the incident.

Any residents in the area with CCTV footage that captured the vehicle are urged to come forward.

Anyone with information which could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team will prepare a report for the Coroner.
