Kaine Gleeson: man faces eight child sex charges after ACT manhunt

A man has faced court charged with eight child sex offences allegedly committed against a 14-year-old girl. He was arrested following a large-scale manhunt across the ACT.

A man has faced court for child sex offences after he was arrested following a day-long territory-wide manhunt.

Kaine Gleeson, 40, is facing eight child sex related charges including four counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged between 10 and 16, two counts of encouraging a child to participate in sexual activity, maintaining a sexual relationship with a child and producing child exploitation material.

All eight charges relate to one 14-year-old girl.

Mr Gleeson appeared at the ACT Magistrates Court via video link on Friday where his lawyer told the court he would not make a bid for bail.

No pleas have been entered.

ACT Policing called for public assistance to locate Mr Gleeson on Thursday morning.

Mr Gleeson was finally located on Thursday evening.

Police allege he offended during a period between December 2020 to May 2021.

Magistrate Lisbeth Campbell set a date for Mr Gleeson’s next mention in three weeks time.

The defendant will be remanded in custody until March 11.
