Jennifer Hutchison pleads not guilty to negligent driving causing death

A woman will fight a negligent driving charge after an 84-year-old man died after he was hit crossing the road.

A woman has fronted court for the first time following a road fatality in June.

Jennifer June Hutchison, 61, pleaded not guilty to one count of negligent driving occasioning death when she appeared in the ACT Magistrates court on Monday.

Ms Hutchison was charged following the death of a 84-year-old man who police allege was struck by her vehicle.

Emergency services were called the intersection of Brigalow and Hall streets following reports a man had been struck at the pedestrian crossing about 5.30pm on June 18.

The man was seriously injured and was transported to hospital by ACT paramedics but succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital on June 24.

His death was the sixth death in ACT’s 2021 road toll.

Ms Hutchison is due to reappear in court on February 21 for a pre-hearing mention.
