Hayden Todkill: man to face ACT Supreme Court over Kingston stabbing

A man charged with attempted murder over a stabbing at the Kingston Foreshore has been committed to the ACT Supreme Court for trial. Find out what happened.

A man charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at the Kingston Foreshore has been committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court.

Hayden Todkill, 26, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Special Magistrate Margaret Hunter committed Mr Todkill for trial during a pre-hearing mention on Tuesday.

The statement of facts tendered to the court allege on March 5 Mr Todkill became involved in a fight sparked over a spilt drink.

The documents state Mr Todkill attended a birthday celebration for the complainant and his sister on the Canberra Party Boat.

Police allege during the cruise a woman accused another man of spilling a drink on her.

It is alleged the party boat was docked early due to disorderly conduct of the revellers, and the group went to The Dock pub on the Kingston Foreshore.

Police allege Todkill confronted the man accused of spilling the drink at the pub and asked him if there was a problem.

A group of party goers allegedly left the pub to observe a fight between Todkill and the man.

The complainant allegedly attempted to break up the fight between Todkill and the other man.

Police allege after the fight had broken up Mr Todkill began to walk away from the pub towards Eastlake Pde but the complainant and other party goers allegedly followed him

Court documents allege at this point Mr Todkill pulled out a knife that had been concealed in his clothes and stabbed the complainant in the torso.

The complainant allegedly punched Mr Todkill in the head before the defendant stabbed him five more times.

Court document state the complainant required emergency surgery and at one point was placed into an induced coma.

Mr Todkill maintains he acted in self defence.

He remains on bail and will appear in the ACT Supreme Court later this month.
