A pre-hearing mention for a man accused of murder has been adjourned until next month.

The pre-hearing mention of a man accused of murder has been adjourned until mid-May.

Grant Allen Q Oldfield, 49, was charged with the murder of 68-year-old Kambah man Douglas Arthur Creek in January.

Mr Oldfield pleaded not guilty to the single charge of murder when he first appeared at the ACT Magistrates Court.

He did not apply for bail and bail was formally refused by the magistrate.

Mr Oldfield did not attend Wednesday’s brief pre-hearing mention.

Magistrate Louise Taylor told the court due to the fact the defendant’s case would need to be committed to the ACT Supreme Court Mr Oldfield may be required to attend the next pre hearing mention in person.

Mr Oldfield’s lawyer asked for an adjournment stating they were awaiting forensic documents.

The case will return to the ACT Magistrates Court on May 18.

Mr Creek died on January 23 after he checked himself out of the Canberra Hospital the day before.

Police allege they found Mr Creek with serious head injuries at a residence in Kambah in the early hours of January 22.

Mr Creek was then transported to Canberra Hospital for treatment and left the hospital at 12.25pm on January 22.

Police allege they received a report at 11.30am on January 22 and were unable to contact Mr Creek.

Officers then attended his residence and allegedly found Mr Creek’s body.
