A truck driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a female sex worker at knifepoint has been hit with four more charges in the ACT Magistrates Court.

On Monday Calwell man Craig Emberton was formally charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, destroying evidence and perverting the course of justice.

When Mr Emberton first appeared at court in April he was charged with aggravated robbery and sexual assault in the third degree.

No pleas have been entered for any charges, and Mr Emberton is remanded in custody.

All six charges arise from the same alleged incident which occurred on March 25.

The statement of facts tendered to the court alleges on March 25 Mr Emberton arranged to meet the complainant for sex, and arrived at her residence at 4pm.

Mr Emberton allegedly pulled a knife and demanded money from the woman, before ordering her to take off her clothes.

He allegedly engaged in vaginal and oral intercourse without consent with the woman while holding the knife.

Police allege at one point during the alleged assault Mr Emberton asked the woman if she was “safe” and she did not reply.

At this point it is alleged he removed his condom without consent.

Police allege after the assault Mr Emberton took the woman’s phone and deleted her call log and messages between him and her before leaving the residence with the knife; $430 in cash he took from the woman and his used condom.

Police allege the defendant agreed that he contacted the woman via an online escort site and then met her with a knife with the purpose of taking money and agreed he deleted call logs and messages between him and the woman off her phone.

However in his interview Mr Emberton denied pulling a knife on her, taking money, or having sexual intercourse with her.

Mr Emberton allegedly told police he was having financial difficulties and was “too embarrassed” to ask his friends or family for support.

Craig Emberton will face court again for a pre-hearing mention on July 18.
