A rejuvenation room with a yoga centre, a female-friendly cardio gym segregated from the weights area and larger apartments for those wanting to start a family without having to upsize.
The resort-style Ivy apartment complex on the northern side of Woden Town Centre has been cleverly designed for women aged between 22 and 49 based on market research.
Scaffolding is about to come down on the landmark 16-storey, 274-apartment development on Irving St with construction due to finish in October and residents set to move in by Christmas.
Development manager Michael D’Elboux, of Amalgamated Property Group, said there are 60 apartments remaining after a high prevalence of female buyers who bought in early.
“Ladies are much smarter than guys; they actually plan ahead and think things through a bit more while the men tend to buy once it’s finished rather than as a result of a long term research process.”
Mr D’Elboux said the design of Ivy reflected feedback from women who valued privacy and security.
A full cardio gym is completely segregated from the inevitable grutns that will stem from the weights gym and a “rejuvenation room” offers a yoga centre, plunge pool, spa and sauna.
The floor plate of apartments is about 20 per cent larger compared to other properties in Woden.
“We designed the units bigger for females thinking about having a family who will not have to relocate,” Mr D’Elboux said.
He said Ivy had been popular with downsizers from Curtin, Hughes and Garran who see the building as an integral part of the “reforming” of Woden.
“Woden is getting a reshape at the moment and part of our intent with this building was to be at the forefront of reshaping people’s opinion about the suburb,” he said.
Designed by DBI Architects, the curved facade was inspired by the sweeping curves of the roundabout where Yamba Drive, Yarra Glen and Melrose Drive meet.
Every apartment has a curved exterior balcony, floor to ceiling windows, double glazing and airconditioning, with an average energy efficiency rating of 7.3.
Amalgamated Property Group is also the developer behind The Oaks next door, which enabled uninterrupted vistas for both projects, despite being built at different times.
The outdoor landscaping will be extensive, with areas set aside for bocce, yoga, socialising and lounging next to a 25m lap pool, and feature an outdoor children’s playground.
Prices start at $315,000 for a one bedroom and $415,000 for a two bedroom.
