A Canberra mechanic has been charged under anti-revenge porn laws after allegedly posting “intimate images” of a woman to Facebook and calling her “such a whore”.

Adam Silvester, 36, of Giralang, fronted the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday after spending two nights in remand charged with assault and distributing an intimate image.

Magistrate Bernadette Boss granted Silvester strict bail to live with a friend in Gunning, NSW, and ordered him not to contact the alleged victim and not to mention her “directly or indirectly” on any social media platform or publicly accessible media.

A throng of family members supported the visibly emotional Silvester in court on Monday.

According to court documents, Silvester is accused of calling the woman a “slut” and a “whore” before grabbing her mobile phone and refusing to hand it over.

When the woman went to grab it off him, Silvester grabbed her wrists and shoved her up against a wall.

While the woman was on the phone to police, she received a text message saying there were “intimate images” on her Facebook account.

Police allege Silvester posted the photos after going through the woman’s phone.

According to court documents, the photos were accompanied with a caption: “So I’m meant to have been in love with Adam Silvester and stopped cheating but I can’t help it because I’m such a whore”.

In an interview with police after being arrested, Silvester admitted to putting the photos on Facebook but denied assaulting the woman, according to court documents.

Silvester’s legal aid lawyer said he had a steady job at Top Spec Automotive at Hume, and had not been in trouble with the law since 2008.

Ms Boss granted bail after saying she wasn’t satisfied there was a risk of Silvester reoffending but put him on a series of strict conditions.

As well as being banned from mentioning the woman on social media, Silvester will have to obey a curfew, not go within 100 metres of the woman or her home.

Silvester, who did not enter pleas on Monday, returns to court in April.
