A young carpenter has been granted bail despite allegedly committing four driving offences while on bail for six charges of violence.

Harrison Paul Hogan, 20, appeared via video link in Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday after being charged with driving an unregistered and uninsured motorbike while his licence is suspended and without a helmet.

Police allege the Braemar resident went on an illegal joy ride through Willow Vale at around 6.30pm on September 29 while riding an unregistered and uninsured black and white motorcycle and not wearing a fitted helmet.

The four driving charges are added to the three previous driving while disqualified offences he’s accumulated in this month alone, according to court documents. Police say the carpenter has a “clear disregard for the disqualified status”.

Police allege Mr Hogan went on the joy ride when he was on bail for three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, and a charge of affray.

Police allege Mr Hogan assaulted four teens at around 2am on August 8 at a pub in Bowral after one of the teens asked him to pay for a drink he’d spilled.

According to the allegations, Mr Hogan slapped the teen across the face and then attacked the teen’s friend while he was urinating. Police allege Mr Hogan held the teen against the wall with one hand and punched him eight times in the face with the other.

He then walked out onto Bong Bong St and attacked the remaining three teens, who he left bruised and bleeding as he ran off, according to police.

The court heard the alleged violence followed only weeks after Mr Hogan was allegedly involved in a brawl outside the Mittagong RSL on July 18, which left one man with head injuries and another with a suspected broken ankle.

Police prosecutor Peter Robinson said police were concerned Mr Hogan would continue to endanger the community if he was granted bail, given he “has so many offences before the court at the moment”.

Mr Robinson noted the accused was on bail at the time of the alleged offences.

“(Bail conditions) seem to be having little to no effect,” he said.

“The court could have no confidence that bail conditions would deter him from offending.”

However, the court heard Mr Hogan was eager to be granted conditional liberty so he could continue to run his local business through which he earns more than $2000 a week.

Magistrate Robert Rabbidge decided to grant the young man’s bail. He ordered Mr Hogan not to have any contact with witnesses or victims in his ongoing court matters, not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and not to enter any licenced premises in the Southern Highlands or Bunnings in Mittagong.

However, Magistrate Rabbidge told the defendant he was “on the cusp” of heading in the wrong direction in his life.

“You’ve got to think about the community, not just yourself,” he said.

“The law can be very cruel indeed.”

Mr Hogan will reappear in Moss Vale Court on November 2.
