In a “vital boost for the community” and surrounds, Goulburn has gained significant funding for upgrades of two sporting facilities, which will see construction works start in the second half of the year.

On Tuesday night, Goulburn Mulwaree Council awarded the construction contract to local company ARW Multigroup for $3 million, who will be upgrading both North Park Sports Pavilion and the Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex.

Funding for both projects is valued at more than $8.5 million, with the NSW government pitching in over $4.8 million.

A joint tender has been awarded for the upgrades of sporting facilities in Goulburn, including North Park Sports Pavilion.

Following a month-long evaluation process, Mayor Peter Walker said that the joint tender for the two sporting facilities had yielded an improved result.

“Council alongside the hockey community and Junior Rugby League have worked hard to tap into grant funding, and then achieve an affordable outcome for these important projects,” Cr Walker said.

The facilities at North Park will be of great benefit to all users of those sporting fields, and our hockey complex will now be able to hold national standard tournaments.”

North Park, which currently delivers junior rugby league, junior and senior cricket, as well as school and community use, will have its old facilities demolished and a new pavilion constructed.

The pavilion will include a canteen, meeting room, four change rooms, public toilets, a referee room, and storage and associated infrastructure.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the new pavilion at North Park was the next priority project to continue the revitalisation of community amenities in Goulburn.

“We are investing heavily in local infrastructure projects to provide a vital boost for our community, local jobs and economic growth while delivering lasting upgrades that will benefit the residents of Goulburn for years to come,” Mr Taylor said.

The Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex will gain a new amenities building on the western side of the complex, which will include four change rooms, referee rooms, a hockey shop, meeting room and storage areas.

With the current amenities building considered inadequate, having been built around 18 years ago, it will now meet state and national hockey championship requirements and be fully accessible to all levels of mobility.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman welcomed council’s decision.

“I am so pleased that the NSW Government could contribute over $4.8M to Goulburn Mulwaree Council ensuring that each of these priority projects will be delivered,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“Projects like the North Park Precinct and Goulburn’s Regional Hockey Facility build upon the NSW Government’s vision to help make regional NSW the best place to live, work and visit.”

North Park Sports Pavilion Upgrade is being funded through:

  • NSW Regional Sport Facility Fund: $967,603
  • Australian Government Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program: $600,000
  • Junior Rugby League: $15,000

Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex is being funded through:

  • NSW Government Restart NSW Fund: $3,872,000
  • Goulburn Mulwaree Council: $3,009,000
  • Goulburn District Hockey Association: $200,000

Goulburn Mulwaree Council also approved an additional $832,828 from the general unrestricted cash reserve to deliver the hockey project.
