In a bid to significantly improve safety in school zones, 18 schools in the Southern Tablelands will benefit from works valued at more than $6,980,000.

The initiatives are part of a $40.8 million state and federal School Zone Infrastructure Sub Program, which Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, said would fund 500 infrastructure projects at 350 schools in regional NSW.

“Every child in NSW has the right to get to and from school safely,” Mr Farraway said.

“The rollout will help pedestrians, school children, cyclists and motorists share the roads safely.

“The Australian and NSW Governments are committed to helping to improve safety around our schools,” she said.

Schools will benefit from safety initiatives like footpaths, bus zones, flashing lights, wombat crossings and more.

“These upgrades will help to keep some our most vulnerable road users safe – as well as make the busy pick-up and drop-off times easier for parents, carers, children and the wider community,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
